MTOC horse tram No 253 at Kilmore

This is a replica of a cross bench horse tram used on the Zoological Gardens tram route between Royal Parade and the Melbourne Zoo. This tramline was closed in 1923 following the destruction of the depot by fire during the infamous police strike. This car was constructed from original drawings and mounted on a standard Melbourne cable tram truck.

This tramcar was used for the horse tram service at Bylands prior to the
availability of electric traction at the museum.
