M&MTB W2 No 643

MMTB W2 No 643 at Bylands

M&MTB W2 No 643 at Bylands

No 643 is a typical late series W2 type tramcar, being built in 1930 at Preston Workshops. It differs from 509 in that it does not have an angle iron bumper, but is fitted with a channel strip anti-climber bumper. The only major modification it received during its life was the addition of marker lights in the early 1970s.

No 643 was allocated to Preston (Thornbury), Coburg and Brunswick Depots, before finally providing service from Preston Depot during the last three decades of its career.

This car was acquired by the TMSV in 1986. It is intended to retain it in late M&MTB form.
