MTOC cable tram dummy No 593

This car is a replica of a cable tram dummy built from components recovered from a number of sources, built in the early 1980s. It is fitted with a small petrol driven internal combustion engine, which drives one axle through a hydraulic transmission. It is stored in the cable tram depot at Hudson Park, Kilmore, and is used in conjunction with a cable tram trailer at that location. It appears in the MTOC livery of a Bourke Street tram. It carries fleet number 593 as the highest numbered M&MTB or MTOC dummy was No 592.

This tram, along with a cable tram trailer, operated in the Moomba parades of 1992 and 1993 in Swanston Street, and was the first such vehicle to appear in this street since conversion to electric trams in the mid 1920s. It has also operated for brief periods at a number of other Australian tramway museums.
